TRY NOT TO FORGET

Photographs by Susie J. Horgan

These photographs captured by Susie J. Horgan are a visual archive of the early days of the DC punk and hardcore scene (circa 1980). The documentary images catalogue that movement’s aesthetic and visual cues, inadvertently creating the defining style of Straight-Edge iconography. Subsequent generations have drawn on these ideas in their own attempts to articulate their identities.

This presentation is a love letter to that influential body of work. It is an opportunity to examine the movement at its most vital, and to give the next generation a connection to the intensity and power that Horgan so presciently documented.
